Well Grounded is pleased to announce the appointment of Fidele Yobo as the new Chair of its Board. This transition marks an important step in the organisation’s ongoing journey to support locally rooted, resilient and influential civil society across Africa.
After many years of committed service, Well Grounded’s founder, Cath Long, is stepping down from her role as Chair. Cath’s humble leadership and dedication to building an organisation based on shared power, trust, and collaboration have been central to Well Grounded’s identity. She will remain closely connected to the organisation and continue contributing to its mission.
Cameroonian national, Fidele Yobo brings deep experience in civil society leadership and a strong commitment to supporting organisations in ways that are simple, respectful, and truly responsive to local realities. Her perspective, grounded in years of work with communities and movements across Africa, aligns closely with Well Grounded’s commitment to transforming how support to civil society is imagined and practised.
Message from Incoming Chair Fidele Yobo “I take on this role with profound gratitude for Cath’s leadership and the qualities she has brought to Well Grounded over the years – care, integrity, and humility. Her commitment to shared power, trust, and support has had a lasting impact on the organization and continues to steer us. I am honored by the trust placed in me and view this transition not as a departure but as an ongoing shared journey – centered on listening, learning, and working alongside our civil society partners with respect and solidarity.”
This leadership transition represents both continuity and renewal. With gratitude for Cath’s vision and guidance, and with enthusiasm for Fidele’s experience and grounded approach, Well Grounded is well‑positioned for its next chapter. The organisation remains dedicated to strengthening civil society in ways that are humble, partnership‑driven, and rooted in shared power.
