Discussion Series – Issue 1: The challenge of leadership in CSOs in the Congo Basin

This discussion paper sets out the importance of leadership in CSOs in the Congo Basin. It draws from the experiences of Well Grounded’s Leadership Development Programme, which supports leaders, managers and staff of CSOs working in the field of natural resources or community rights in Cameroon, the Republic of Congo and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Highlights from Nairobi Peer Learning Event

In July 2015, Well Grounded and Maliasili Initiatives brought together a small group of representatives from civil society organisations (CSOs) working on conservation and natural resource management issues in Kenya, Tanzania, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. The purpose of the one-day event was to share experiences and ideas across organisations around strategy development, business planning, and the incorporation of new and more sustainable funding models. This report highlights some of the key points and themes that emerged from the learning event.

Study on aspects of the legal framework that affect CSOs in Cameroon

Well Grounded commissioned this study on aspects of the legal framework that affect CSOs, after discovering through our daily interactions that many organisations are unaware of their legal obligations, that it is hard to obtain relevant information and that much of the information which is available is presented in a language that is hard to understand. To remedy this we asked local legal experts to collect and collate all the information that CSOs need in order to comply with their national legal system and to translate it into accessible language.
